Blogging vs. Facebook/Twitter

Monday, August 29th, 2011

Ever since putting up our Facebook page, it seems I’ve been more inclined  to “micro blogging” rather than updating here. Since the last update, we’ve been keeping busy photographing lots of pet portraits and a couple amazing milestone events including a 90th birthday party and a 50th wedding anniversary party. In July I took a couple months off to recuperate from surgery, but we are back in action and kicking things off with a wedding at a central Oregon mountain resort. We are also very excited to be working with the Oregon Opportunity Network and will be photographing a series of events for them starting with their Annual Awards Gala and Industry Support Conference in mid-September.

One of the causes near and dear to us at H2Meyer Photography is the environment. Which is why we were honored and delighted when one of our clients, The Freshwater Trust asked us to be part of their 2011 “reThink” Annual Gala & Auction. We are donating our photography services to one of their live auction packages for a Personalized Party for 25 at The Treasury Ballroom.  The Gala & Auction will be held February 25th at the Portland Art Museum.

Adventures in Pet Photography: Frisky Frisco

Monday, January 17th, 2011

Last week we had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful family and their beloved dog and cats. Among them was this frisky fellow, who bonded with me as soon as we walked in for our second day of shooting. We had so much fun with them, we’re planning to have a little caption contest on our Facebook page in the next few days.

Why I shoot: the joys of photography

Friday, October 9th, 2009

A quick thought just popped into my head about how much I enjoy proving to people that they are photogenic… not models, of course, but every day people… I started with friends and family and quickly learned that with the right lighting and angles, people truly are transformed. But the real fun comes with showing them the shot, right on the camera and seeing their faces light up. That is some powerful stuff, seeing someone change the way they see themselves right before your eyes. They also know that since they’re seeing it right after it was shot that no manipulation has taken place…

The other real joy comes with “seeing” the minutiae and finding beauty in the mundane, both of which have been greatly enhanced by my beloved macro lens, the AF-S VR Micro-NIKKOR 105mm f/2.8G IF-ED. The katydid shots below are a prime example.
